The Hood Divers are a group of neighbors in Norcross, Georgia who are best known for their Halloween parties featuring a community effort "graveyard" filled with dozens of hand-carved pumpkins that terrorize and entertain children and adults alike each fall. This year, the party was followed by a trip to the deep south - the island of Curaçao just off the Venezuela coast.
We picked on Lion's Dive Hotel and Underwater Curaçao this time, who were VERY accomodating - spoiling us terribly. When we discussed making a beach dive along the jetty in front of the facility, they offered to use their boat to drop us off at the far end so we could cover more ground as a drift dive. (We declined actually - we WANTED the beach dive experience of being completely self-reliant.) They also got us on another boat when their dive boat was not scheduled to go out in the morning. I can't think of anything more they could have done for us, save waive the charges :-)
The island of Curaçao is outside the hurricane belt in the southern Caribbean, 60 miles from Venezuela, between Aruba & Bonaire. It's about 36miles long and asbout 9 miles across it's widest point. The population is about 144,000 and the capital (and only) city is Wilhemstad.
